Past and Present Projects
We are thrilled to share an update on support for the next generation of scientists! Thanks to your generosity and support earlier this year we finished this phase of our give back initiative started in 2022 and donated $10,000 to Veterinary Medicine students passionate about reptile and amphibian care, and established a $40,000 endowed award for science students committed to conservation in zoology and ecology. In addition to funding we set in place in 2023 this contribution makes a lasting impact on the next generation. 🐸💚

We hope to share information on this project for our followers and members as this project continues on our website and through our social media:In 2022, the Alberta Reptile and Amphibian Society (T.A.R.A.S) secured funding for a significant partnership project, building upon groundwork laid during a hibernaculum monitoring study conducted from 2019 to 2021.The project's focus on the special conservation status of numerous snakes in Southeastern Alberta underscores the urgent need to prioritize the conservation of these species and their habitats through vital field research and targeted educational outreach, especially aimed at youth and indigenous communities in the province. This project adds approximately $250,000 in funding, presenting a rare opportunity to advance crucial research endeavors in Alberta. Acting as a catalyst for the conservation of our often misunderstood and underappreciated reptile species across the prairies, this initiative holds promise for significant progress.
